Has your son or daughter done any type of strength training/ fitness classes within a gym environment before, maybe with their school or outside of school? Do you worry about whether they are safe or getting sound guidance? 
 
Do they participate in any sports they perhaps want to be fitter, stronger or more skilled for?
 
Or are they asking to go to the gym or fitness classes with their friends, where you worry about their safety, sound guidance, safe exercise selection, the coercive behavior of others, unhealthy influences & generally feel concerned about them in an environment that can be not only daunting but also promote unhealthy mindsets, body types and exercises? 
 
We can't blame you... there are many cowboys out there. 
 
What we do at Power Kids Wellness involves a variety of different training methods, so your child has the opportunity to learn how to lift safely and choose the best exercise and training regime for their goals, while also increasing their fitness level. They will be taught about sound nutrition and negative fitness influences and fads to avoid. This will allow them to become a well-rounded individual. 
 
Each session includes a variety of bodyweight & fundamental strength exercises. We train movements not simply exercises, and everyone earns the level of exercise they do - that is, they must be strong enough, have sound body movement technique and have the neurological ability to do a movement safely.  
 
These movements covered will include both bodyweight and weighted (if ready), knee dominant movements like squats, hip hinge movements like deadlifts, push/pull movements such as rows and pressing or pushups etc, as well as metabolic conditioning and agility. 
 
Your child will also learn the importance of sound warm-ups and recovery.
 
Each daily session will have a different skill that we will focus on for that day within a fun and safe environment.

A Typical Class: This is a freestyle class based on the needs of the class and style of instructor. Class sites include the studio or outdoors depending on season. Team activities may be included in this class.

Fitness Tip of the Week! 

Get active! Fit in physical activity where you can in your day, whether taking a family walk after dinner or hitting the gym. Remember, children and teens should get 60 or more minutes of physical activity per day, and adults should get two and half hours per week.

Power Kids Wellness is a Southwest Florida nonprofit organization providing youth the opportunity to learn how to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle.  Power Kids Wellness encourages kids to be physically active every day and eat a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, and grains (while eliminating poor food choices), in addition to equipping youth with the tools they need for a life-long healthy lifestyle.

It is our aim to teach children the basic principles of exercise and to improve their health across the following 10 components of fitness which are: cardiovascular endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.

Children from 8 - 12 years start in our Tweens program which will teach them the basics of fitness, how to move with purpose and ensure that at the first stages of growth that muscles, tendons and ligaments grow strong and agile. Kids classes include fun fitness related games that can involve teamwork, problem-solving and patience - all other factors that will help them progress in school and life.

Once children are proficient in the way that they are moving, demonstrating body awareness, strength and cardio fitness, as well as maturity and the ability to follow and listen to instruction, they are then progressed to the Teens classes.

In the Teens classes, your children will be introduced to more complex movements and enjoy a more structured workout that really starts to test their fitness capabilities. They will be using a range of equipment from exercise bikes to kettlebells and taught to execute these movements safely.

Once Teens demonstrate a level of maturity and strength and we believe they need something more, we will then design a workout the teen can do on their own.

The next 4 week session of Youth Fitness begins October 25th and is FREE to all participants thanks to the generous donation of Power Kids Wellness.

Teen Fitness classes are held at Naples Personal Training on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30pm.

Children benefit when parents increase their own daily physical activity.

One study explains that a “child’s level of physical activity rises by 5 to 10 minutes for every 20-minute increase in the physical activity of a parent.” Similarly, children walked an additional 200 to 350 steps for every 1,000 steps that a parent walked. This connection is important to keep in mind when encouraging children to get the recommended 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day.

Children benefit when parents increase their own daily physical activity. 

One study explains that a “child’s level of physical activity rises by 5 to 10 minutes for every 20-minute increase in the physical activity of a parent.” Similarly, children walked an additional 200 to 350 steps for every 1,000 steps that a parent walked. This connection is important to keep in mind when encouraging children to get the recommended 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) per day.

This is a freestyle class based on the needs of the class and style of instructor. Class sites include the studio or outdoors depending on season. Team activities may be included in this class.

• Family Fitness Classes - Classes that focus on activity and play as a family. creating an in-home environment of activity and movement. 

• Nutritional Guidance on the A,B,C's of Proper Nutrition - Learn the truth, about your body and how to fuel it right. Educating the youth on various aspects of maintaining healthy eating habits and how to integrate this lifestyle into their own. 

• Kids in Motion Activities - Exercising doesn't have to be a chore. We introduce youth to new sports and activities. They will learn the rules, strategy of the game, and how to be a good teammate. In hopes that they will enjoy the game or activity, share with friends and play often.

• Ongoing Online Support and Education - We work together with our youth and their parents/caregivers to establish healthy eating and exercise habits for a lifetime. We provide an online community that provides support and education for youth and parents.

As many of you know, two of my passions are fitness and coaching youth. With two children of my own I understand that developing good dietary and exercise habits in our youth is essential. Studies have shown that kids who consume more nutrient dense foods and are active 40-60 minutes daily are less likely to develop chronic preventive diseases such as diabetes and heart disease in adulthood. With that in mind, we have created Power Kids Wellness Inc. A 501c3 nonprofit organization that provide youth the opportunity to learn how to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle. Our program promotes physical fitness and nutritional education in a safe and fun environment.
